E.G.

Ok, so whilst one screen was pretty cool... why not have more? Very Happy

So.. I wanted to have one touchscreen in the centre console and one screen behind the dash (as seen in the pic).

But I wanted to keep my headunit, my climate controls where they were and my air vents. In addition the entire setup must look TOTALLY factory.

Easy peasy... ?!

First things first, I sourced a spare head unit bracket thingy and cut it up yo. Then I bought an audi a4 single din adaptor (it was a good size as a basis for working on a head unit cage). And then I hacked up my brand new Lilliput 7" !

Next came the sticky fibreglass stuff, good fun to work with, you can get this at Halfords. Current pics take you through from cutting up, test fitting, applying compound and a bit of sanding + dremeling.

The bits:

Placing parts:

Stuff glued on yo:

This was done with a glue gun to get a temporary placement.

Notice location of head unit bracket thingy, this is because the head unit needs to clear the gear linkage.

Test fit shows all is secksy, but that the metal bracket in the 'lude will need to be cut out a bit, this won't be a problem though:

\o/

Applied:

Drying, soon another layer of fibreglass compound goes on:

More later, as I said, if you want to see all the pics, go here:

I'll look forward to seeing it when I get home (as for some reason my work filters don't like "pink sins" Shocked Laughing )

I really would love to do a carpc just don't have the knowledge!

Thanks for the kind words Smile

I actually have an almost full photolog of the original carpc project, just have to find it an upload it for you guys Smile

Currently Minnie (the Prelude, named by my GF !) supports:

- Webcam capture (webcam mounted underneath the license plate on the front bumper

- Full 802.11b wifi

- About a million usb2 ports

- 'Nipple' pointer mouse installed on the drivers side coin tray

- A cool pink plastic keyboard (due to be swapped with a smaller one soon )

- DVD / CDRW

- Awesome sat-nav

Future mods include:

- Dual screens

- Slot loading dvd/cdrw

- Better webcam (with nightvision)

- Realtime engine diagnostics

- Realtime ECU programming & datalogging

This stuff fascinates me. Do you have to spring for something like an AEM EMS rig to get realtime telemetry, or are there cheaper alternatives?

This is where it gets tricky for a Prelude.

Almost all Honda OBD1 ecu's are capable of datalogging, you can do this for free pretty much Smile

has all you want to read. With a standard OBD1 Honda ECU you can tune it, program it, datalog etc, it is a very capable ECU.

The Prelude P13 is a bit on an exception and full tuning + datalogging is currently not possible (the maps are read differently). The 'best' choice is to get an OBD1 Integra ECU (P72) and use that. You will end up with all the features of an aftermarket ECU, for the price of a second hand Honda ECU Smile

PMGFI.org has links to free programs to read/write honda ECU data as well as do datalogging etc etc.

Forgot to mention, full phone bluetooth support also.

I think Confused has a similar system but he has a pop-out screen or it is mounted in the air vents or something.

nope, his screen is exactly where yours is and has been for quite some time Wink

Mine was originally where yours is but I've now recessed it a few inches and altered the angle to give better visibility and reduced glare. I dont see a need for a second screen so I've just got the one moulded into my double din slot for now, although I have just aquired a broken 17" TFT that I may be tempted to have a play with Laughing

what are you using for your bluetooth by the way? I'm running phonecontrol.net with a SE K800i phone and it seems to work pretty well... I had issues with my old motorola D900 though...

Real nice work on the install so far, can't wait to see the finished item. I don't think I've had a good look at Confused's install, but Paul (Schwarzpm) shown me his car PC last year at JAE, and I was well impressed with all the functionallity Cool

I started to post on this thread yesterday, but the forum gave up on me Rolling Eyes

Looking forward to seeing the finished article.

I've had a PC in the lude now for 3 years, i met Garry at a CarPC meet about 2 years ago Question when he still had a *cough* non-jap car. Glad he changed his ways Smile

Most the preludes I've seen so far with a screen in that position usually loose the head unit, something I didn't want to do either, hence using the air vent space. Mounting it higher up, for me, makes it more user friendly but less OEM looking (which is something than doesn't really bother me Laughing ).

Keep us updated Smile

DAY2:

More sanding and dremeling after another layer of fibreglass being added. Again, the dremel is a total, utter godsend. If you don't have one, go and buy one now, if you can't think of a use for it, you are a liar and by extension a child molester.

Starting to take more shape:
