Hi All,

I've been running my 4th gen on Toyo Proxies since i got it in May '08', and they have been fantastic! considering i got a very heavy right foot Rolling Eyes they ave lasted well. But the time has come for new fronts!

My qustion is, should i go for Toyo's again or can anyone recomend anything with better grip, at least for the current weatherconditions, wet, cold and soon to be ice'y Sad

I no Bri runs on Vredastiens, and i got a mate who now runs his 320bhp Golf desiel on them, but has anyone run both them and Toyo's, if so which did you prefer?

Cheers, Stu Cool

Those Vredesteins are beasts but i couldnt find them is 215/45R17s.
IMO the best tyre around without a doubt all year round is Uniroyal Rainsport 2. Try driving in the very wet fast. You will wonder if its really wet or not.

Bloody amazing tyres.

My Uniroyal Rainsport 2s are awesome in the wet, very little difference from driving in the dry! Soft sidewalls are probably part of their ability but the Prelude now moves sideways in a crosswind, which it never did on the old Falcons.

What size are you looking for anyway?

Cheers Guys,

Tyre size i'm going for is 215-40-17, as these were the nearest match in size to the original 205-15's. didnt want to start altering speedo read-out!

So many different makes, what to go for Confused Not to arsed on how long they last, as long as they grip aswell as supeglue! that'll do for me Very Happy

Speedo will be 100% accurate with 225/45R17s on both the 4th gen and 5th Gens.
Id go for 215/45R17 on yours. The bigger tyre wall will make the cars suspension behave like its suppose to. 215/40 is on the thin side, ok but will handle better with a 45.

Stu, in this weather at this time of year, the best grip tyres are not the same as summer.

You'll have to choose which you want most, slightly crappy grip in the wet and cold but awesome in dry summer months, or good in this cold wet and won't stand up to as much pushing in the dry summer months.

Would have liked 225's but but rims arnt wide enough to fit them, and when i checked, 215/45/17's would make the speedo reading accurate, realy could do with out any more points Sad

Well i think i may just stick with what i no, I no i can push the Toyo's, and even in the wet when they slip, ease off and they grip again, i must confess i get a bit paranoid when it comes to tyres, i reckon most crashes on the road are caused with crap or wrong tyres. i ran a 1.8 mondeo for 2 years and it had Goodyear NCT's, it was frightening to drive! eventialy went for Toyo Proxies (non directional) and the difference was incredable
it was a totally different car and they even lasted the same as the Goodyears!

When I was running the BB1 (2WS converted) I had OZ superleggras and used Yokohama Prada Spec II all round. Used them in all weathers. Brilliant in the dry and not so bad in the damp and wet, even had to drive into work a couple of times in the snow. Just have to ease off accordingly. I also ran 215/40 R17s no problems with the speedo front IMO.

Interesting that's exactly the same tyres I'm running on the Accord on all four corners. The Accord not being a sports car, I bought them for economy, noise level, wear rate and grip. I think the tyres are alright, but not brilliant for grip, but more than adaquate for going from A to B. However, I would never have put them on the Prelude.

I swear by Goodyear F1's ( as long as they're the German ones Wink ) When Kwik-Fit were doing a 25% off sale, a few months back, they were as a cheap as the Toyos Shocked

Toyo Proxies are very good both in wet and dry but this time I will go for TOYO T1R because they are very light... Cool

My only experience of Toyo TR-1's was on my Mum's 1.5i civic, i felt they were terrible in the wet.

That's interesting as they seem to have a pretty good wet weather tread pattern cut into them. Is that in standing water or in the damp? I've used them briefly on the Prelude and they were alright.
