Was driving a couple of weeks ago (steady away about 35) when the car seemed to slow for about half a second, the dah board lights lit up for a split second, then all went back to normal
I thought it was strange but it was the fist time it had done it so just carried on.
Yesterday it did it twice??
It has had the recall done on the ignition switch.
I am going to change the fuel filter this weekend but I suspect it may be electrical.
Any thoughts what it might be? |

It had a new battery on about 6 weeks ago, what should the voltage be?
Wouldn't it do this all the time if it wasn't charging correctly? |

Testing the voltage across the battery when engine is on will show if the alternator is working or not.
Test the voltage across the battery when the car is off to seee if the battery is ok.
Battery will be 12v
Should be around 13.9/14.4v when engine is on. _________________

I don't have a volt meter so will have to wait till Monday to see if we have one at work
fitted the fuel filter today, will see how it goes.
Did notice the other day when it cut out that the revs dropped off really quickly. Normaly when revving the engine it drops down to 1000 rpm for a second, then it drops again to tick-over speed (about 750 rpm) on that day it was dopping to about 400 rpm then rising to tick-over speed??
any ideas what might be causing this? |

Checked the charging voltage last night, battery was reading 14.8 volts which I think means everything is ok with the alternator.
Car is still cutting out when driving seems to be very random, idle speed gone back to normal.
Reading on the searchs there seems to have been several others who's cars have been cutting out whilst driving but no-one has written to say what the faults were.
Car starts on first turn of key after it stalls!
fuel pump relay, coil?
Any ideas chaps? |

Just shorted the service connector in the passenger foot well to get any fault codes.
none for the engine typical!
but the ABS was flashing 5 long and 3 short flashes
& 4WS was flashing 5 long flashes, but both of these are working fine
Does anyone know what these codes mean on a 1999 VTI? |
