You mean port and maybe polish right?

You bore and hone piston walls.

If so get a dremel and various heads and do it yourself. Wink
I'll be doing this soon for a secret project. Shocked

Sorry, I say bore to mean cut out/enlarge a circular hole Wink

And to confirm my thoughts, "Honing" in the words of Answer.com Laughing
"The process of removing a relatively small amount of material from a cylindrical surface by means of abrasive stones to obtain a desired finish or extremely close dimensional tolerance."

Basically I want to widen the opening mouth of the intake manifold to 68mm diameter to take a 68mm throttle body.

Your right, that sounds like the honing I know - but not for intakes and heads.

You can and I've seen many people using dremels to 'port' out the intake to match a larger throttle body, plus if you have the small extensions to work the runners too and smoothing out any casting imperfections. Then using buffing wheels to polish them to a smooth finish for improved airflow.

The pro's have the right tools for a proper port but it aint rocket science. I wouldn't touch my head though. You'll be fine with your intake though if you've got some time and patience. Like I said, all things going smoothly over the next couple of months I may be doing exactly this (to a degree) for my project - I'll take lot's of pics and post a little how to if you like. Wink

You still coming Sunday I assume? We can chat more then, might even spill the beans on my plans. Cool

I thought about dremelling, but for one I haven't got the time to do it really... Ideally I need to remove the top portion of the intake, give it to a pro to bore it out to 68mm and then have it back. Secondly... It ain't gonna end up round if I do it myself Laughing I've got a steady patient hand, but I like things perfect and I doubt I'll be able to achieve that Smile

I've got a few mods I wanted to do to my intake as well, but I'm going to wait until I've got a bit of spare cash lying around to pick up a spare.

But yes... We can discuss all on Sunday Wink I must remember to right down the address. The one on the website I assume?... He's not relocated or anything?

Boring and honing can be applied to any cylindrical component, have a scan of your local yellow pages to find your nearest engineering/machine shop company and get them to price it up for you. Prices will vary depending on setup costs - could be anywhere from £40 - £100.

Or

Scribe the diameter and port it out yourself.

Cheers.

Incidentally, how hard/tough is the intake?... Is a dremel going to make fast work of it, or is the intake going to eat the dremel tools?

are you going to gain that much by putting a bigger thottle body on or is it just for throttle response? Embarassed and also do you need a remap or anything else?

cheers
phil
