I know that just sitting in a 'lude is a moving experience, but can anyone explain this?

The speedo says that I'm travelling at 20 kph when I'm stationary.
When I turn the engine off the needle drops back down to zero.

The car is an import with the 112mph limiter still in place.
It still reads in kilometres and I have no wish to convert it to mph.

I think it's been like this since I bought the car, but I never noticed until it was pointed out to me. Embarassed

Any ideas? Confused

Is there a cable that connects to the gearbox?
Could need cleaning.

How do you know how fast you are going in mph, do you have a conversion table on the back of your hand ?

Sorry i meant two questions Embarassed

Mine is an import, but have a 140 mph speedo, does that mean its NOT restricted. i have read some posts about this but am still confused Embarassed

I just go the same speed as the rest of the traffic.
I know that 46-48kph is equivalent to about 30mph.

If the speedo is in mph then I would guess it's been de-restricted.
I really don't know enough about this subject tbh. Confused

The speedo is electronic iirc, the VSS is responsible for sending a signal to it, check the workshop manual for troubleshooting.

Hmm, this has to be the hardest to find in the manual, as in, i can't really find anything on it.

So far as i can tell, it either works properly or it doesn't, can anyone else find it in the manual?

Perhaps just check the connections on the speed sensor, if they're corroded or dirty etc then the lack of earth might cause the resistance you've got.

my speedo stopped working today my car is a jap import and is automatic can anyone point me in the right direction

The connections on the speed sensor would be the place to start. I've still to check mine/find where they are in the engine. Embarassed

The connections on the speed sensor would be the place to start. I've still to check mine/find where they are in the engine. Embarassed

Top of the gearbox near the back, you'll need to remove your intake to see and access it properly.

Removed and opened up speed sensor 2day connections are clean seems to work magnetically can these units fail Question
