Hi,
Can someone please help! My 4WS light has come on and the usual turning it on and off does not seem to work.

I have tried to remove the 7.5AMP fuse under the bonnet from radio/clock point which is meant to clear the system but that has not worked.

Finally I have tried to access the error code using the service connector. I get an error code of 51 what does that mean and how do i resolve it please help?

Erro: 51 - Control Logic - Wheel Caught In Ditch C+,D- CU, RAM, HC

Try a full reset of the 4WS, and see if the fault returns.

Reset 4WS

(Thanks to Taffylude)

1. Apply the hand brake.
2. Short the service connector pins with a paper clip or something similar.
3. Turn the steering wheel to CLOCKWISE (right) 45-65 degrees and hold it that way.
4. Turn the ignition switch to II (on) position but DON'T start your engine.
You'll see that all your warning lights will go on and off, don't pay attention to them.
5. After your 4WS light goes OFF, turn the steering wheel to CENTRE (turn it left) position within 4 seconds and hold it still.
6. When your 4WS light turns ON, turn your steering wheel CLOCKWISE again to 45-60 degrees and hold still (again within 4 seconds).
7. When the 4WS light goes OFF, turn the wheel to the centre position again within 4 seconds and hold it still.
8. If your 4WS light blinks TWICE then you succeeded.
If it stays on after this that means you failed, so simply turn the ignition off and go back to step one and try again. The tricky part with this procedure is that you should do all the steering inputs within 4 seconds so keep it in mind.
If you succeeded, turn your ignition off, remove the short on the service connector, start your engine and check if it's working.
This may look complicated but it is very easy, it only takes a few minutes.

Thanks to Taffylude.

**EDIT**

It has been reported by a few members that this procedure only works on the 5th Gen Prelude. To reset the 4WS on the 4th Gen, a simply disconnection of the battery seems to work.

Removing the fuse or pulling the code is not the same as the procedure quoted above.

Edit - Sorry that reset may not apply to you as you may have a 4th gen Eh? .

Merlin, pardon me for my ignorance but I am confused...

I used the above procedure you have advised and through that process I got the error code 5 long flashes and one short flash of the 4ws light....

having got that i removed the keys from ignition, removed paper clip and started the car. The 4WS light is still on...

When you have a 4WS fault you need to pull the code (which is what you have done) by shorting the service connector and switching your ignition on.

Your code is 51 Control Logic - Wheel Caught In Ditch C+,D- CU, RAM, HC

To do a full reset on a 5th gen you need to short the service conenctor again and follow the steps below:

I dont know the exact reason why you do the steps above, but I would assume that you are doing some sort of calibration by turning the wheels to their maximum rotation (like plugging a joystick into a PC Think ), rather than pulling out the fuse to reset the system.
