Matt, oh yeah, again, that's the shop light reflecting, the bodywork "flares out" at that point, catching the light.
Push, depending on your camera, you should be able to get good shots, but you will need to be able to put the camera down or on a tripod, otherwise you've no chance.
Let me know if you want to learn more, myself or i'm sure Salazar would be happy to help you. _________________

Looking at the shape of the light and also its quality, I would suggest that the white spot you're referring to is lens flare. It's caused by one of the many light sources in the scene reflecting on the lenses elements at a particular angle, causing unwanted internal scattering of the light. Not always bad though, as can sometimes add a sense of drama to an image.
Max, I really like those extra 2 shots as well, a nice little scene there with all those globe lights. You'll be better off extending the exposure time and moving the aperture to at least F8 to get the best out of the lens. Also, the longer the exposure the more funky things happen to the colours in your shot
Really a Tripod or Monopod is essential for anything under 1/25th sec and for most amateurs I recommend not shooting at less than 1/60th without support of some kind. Also, if you have a poor quality tripod, use the self timer once you've set up the shot and that should avoid camera shake. _________________ 5th Gen R reg 2.2vti, Knightrider Black

Thanks Sal, using a Slik tripod which i'm really happy with and a quick 2 second timer just in case, not to mention just how good the IS is on this particular camera, but then that doesn't help for these kind of exposures.
Funny you should mention about the colours on longer exposures, i'd seen that very morning that colours were appearing in the pictures that i couldn't see in the sky
As for the aperture, i was wondering about this as my max aperture is F8, remember this is still a compact camera
Would this still give better results? I was using F4 to try and keep the lens sharp as closing it down starts giving a softer look to pictures, does it not?
I noticed some lens dirt had caused some other slight imperfections on some pics, hence the question over a cleaner, i just need a miracle to invest in a nice starter SLR now _________________
