|
|
Firstly - Mods, if you think this is in the wrong section please move it to wherever you think best suited
Ok so I know a few of you are using your Ludes for the track and I know from the amount of people that contacted me about buying my old roll cage that there are people out there wanting them.... the question is how many?
Now I'm not talking about the ridiculous full race FIA international+ spec type of cage that currently sit's in my car

What I am talking about is more along the lines of a traditional 6 point bolt in cage that is much simpler to install. It would come with all the necessary floor reinforcing plates (that will need to be welded into place as per MSA regs), removable single door bars and a single rear diagonal.
These are for self installation but fitting can obviously be arranged if required.
Something like this (poor image sorry)

I have my road going Prelude that can be used as the initial guinea pig car for the build. I have no intention of running a cage full time in that car but am prepared to hand it over to the guys for the cage development work.
Obviously it goes without saying that interiors will have to be of the stripped variety but the instruction will be that it should work around the standard structure of the car without the need to cut the inner shell about.
The front legs will clear the dash no problem but you would have to either remove door cards or cut into the leading edge of them.
The cages will be constructed using MSA approved CDS tubing which will be fully TiG welded at any joins/clamp joints.
This is a serious offer to get the ball rolling - Projected costs are currently £500-600 but this may come down depending on the numbers required.
If you are interested please post below....but please ONLY post if you are serious.
Oh and sorry, initially this is for 4th gens only, although it could well be that they will happily fit a 5th gen too...this would need to be confirmed.
Thanks for your interest.

Yeah that's fine mate, they will need to post in this thread ideally though, just makes it easier to gauge interest and see if it's viable to get the ball rolling. _________________

I appreciate that a basic 6 point bolt in cage might not be what everyone wants (can't please all of the people all of the time) but that's really what this thread is aimed at.
The reason behind suggesting (initially) the standard 6 point cage which will meet MSA safety regulations is purely because adding more bars/braces will
a) affect the cost
b) mean potentially more interior mods to the shell.
The idea behind this was mainly for those that wish to install a fairly simple yet effective cage for safety on track days or entry level motorsport.
Obviously more bars can be added to this cage to wherever you want them but the price will reflect this or the raw tubes can be supplied seperately leaving the end user to cut, notch and weld into position.
If people are after a multipoint weld in cage then sorry these will not become available as kits - We can of course arrange for a full multipoint custom built cage to be installed - prices for that will vary greatly depending on how far you want to go.
This all came about from the fact that there really is nothing off the shelf available in the UK which leaves the Prelude track cars somewhat out in the cold. _________________

I can understand that everyone wants things cheaper but not being funny, if you can find another high quality TiG welded 6 point (minimum) bolt in cage for the 4th Prelude at less than £500 you'd better let us all into the secret !!
If 20-30 people turn around and say for definate that they want one then obviously the costs can be reduced as a "production run" can be done.
I am a realist however so know full well that even though there seem to be plenty of people out there with "all out track ludes" there will be very few that want to go as far as installing a roll cage.
Basically what we are trying to do is provide something that we know is not out there readily available that will be 100% MSA approvable (compare dto the likes of Cusco dash dodger cages). Prices are being kept at a minimum but as with anything produced in small numbers it's a balance between materials costs and production time.
Basically the more people sign up for a cage the cheaper it will become.
Just trying to offer a service for you guys _________________

Not seen a PM from you Nathan.
At this stage we have not gone any further with getting these 6 point cages built for several reasons.
I posted this thread up to gauge interest in a viable production of UK available 6 point bolt in cages for the Prelude. I posted the predicted prices up in the first post and what the cage would entail.
I also stated that this was for people who were serious about this as I'm not about to get 6-10 cages built and developed only to find people changing their minds and me then being stuck with them.
Unfortunately it seems that the interest just isn't there, or people want them for next to no money or want this different and that different etc etc etc.
This was never intended to be a design your own cage and I'll get it built thread. This was for 6 point bolt in cages prototyped and built as production for you guys.
If I get 5 people that say yes I definately want one then I'll get the ball rolling and get them produced. Those that state they definately want them will need to show they are serious with a deposit...I'm not about to get burned by false promises.
Once the first prototype and jig have been made then one off orders can be made in the future but to make this viable at the costs indicated then initially a min number of 5 is required.
So there we have it.
If you are serious and definately want a 6 point bolt in cage for your Lude (as described in the first post) then add your name . Please don't add your name if you cannot commit
Thanks, Rich _________________
