Hi all, I have read the "how to" section and searched the forum but want to get some additional info and to check that my plans arnt' going to bugger anything.

For the next week my car is going off the road for new suspension and brakes (Tein Basic coilovers, EBC blank front and rear discs, stock front and rear pads, Goodridge stainless steel brake hoses, Castrol Super DOT 4 fluid).

While everything is being taken off the car I want to clean up my calipers. I have some VHT black spray paint and clear laquer, what is the best way to get the surface rust and grime off the calipers using house hold cleaning products?

At the moment im thinking of dismantling the calipers, sanding with a wire brush, placing the bits (minus the rubber parts Wink in a bath of washing powder, painting them, then using the correct grease put them back together agian.

Does my plan sound ok? Or is there anything better at , or a better way of, cleaning up the calipers?

Cheers

Vinegar apparently works very well.
I done the same with mine but i just left them for a couple of hours.
Cleaned them up well but would probably need left overnight to really clean them

The Bilt Hamber stuff touted by Max looks like a pretty awesome product line.

It's a sticky in the Bodywork section.

It'll save your arms.

I may try vinegar although wont I need alot of it? The reason I thought about washing powered is that it did a great job of cleaning up a load of old door hinges.

Im not wanting to have to buy another product such as BH stuff, in truth im a bit skint after buying all my new bits Laughing

If you use vinegar, get the white (clear) stuff. Wink

Yes hopefully, well take it to bits and see if anything needs replaced.

As you jack each wheel up, spin the wheel and see how free it spins. Usually a good indication if they are binding or not. Word of warning, the dust seals can be a PITA to refit Sad
