As some of you know, I've been having some issues with my insurance regarding an accident I was involved in recently.

I had some nice woman in an SUV reverse into the front of my van when it was parked up, and drove off before I could get her details. The front bumper, headlamp, grille, wing, ecu and gearbox were all damaged in the accident (not too hard a knock, but it is French so not well built Rolling Eyes Laughing )

So I phone up the insurance, and long story short, they told me they'd only repair the wing, bumper and grille. Not the headlamp, ecu or gearbox.

After much complaining and arguing I gave up and said I'll fix it myself, just deliver my car back to me (is undrivable) and I'll fix it myself, which is fair enough eh?

Yea, what Admiral DON'T tell you is that if you have a courtesy car from them, or they have to collect / deliver your car on a truck to or from the garage, even if you don't make a claim, you still lose your no claim's bonus Shocked Shocked

I've been shucked and jived more than I can imagine, so I would say that from my personal experience with them, I would never recommend them to anyone and thought I should share this.

Hmmm I've been with Admiral for 2 years now and they are ok but then I never had to make a claim.

You should pursue this matter further though. Pretty unfair if you loose your NCB for nothing. Normally you won't loose it or get any "previous claims" record if its not your fault. I guess you are very unfortunate since the woman ran off. Did you manage to get her reg?

Nah, I didn't get her details Sad

But yea, if your car doesn't work and they have to recover it, and they "give" you a courtesy car, and then have the same hassle I've had and opt for repairing it yourself, your no claims go!!!! Shocked

Couldn't believe it, but my insurance ends in May and I'm looking to leave the country then so it's not really gonna bother so much to me on that basis, but thought it only fair to warn y'all about what's happened to me.

Refund them the cost of the recovery and the courtesy car and they will allow your NCB.

At the moment, they have an outlay following an accident, therefore there is effectively a claim under your policy.

Simples.

£400 quid mate?? For a recovery there and back and a courtesy car for a week? Bit much I'd say!

But it's not just that, it's the fact that they didn't tell me that at all at any point, and I've been through all paperwork, it isn't mentioned anywhere.

Out of all my friends with Admiral, everyone who has made a claim has nothing but bad things to say about them.

£400 is nothing, you wait to see the storage charges!

The charges are made by the garage they appoint, not by the Insurers. The Insurers just meet those costs on your behalf.

So home come the gear box was damaged? I guess they aren't paying for the gearbox on the basis the assessor/loss adjuster says it wasn't damaged in the accident?

I'd cut my losses and get them to to do as many repairs as possible while you still can.

They better not say anything about storage charges - was stored on the roads Shocked And when they brought it back to my place they left the rear doors unlocked, with all my audio gear in it, so it was left unsecured for at least 5 hours Shocked

The gearbox ECU got damaged, and then I guess that caused the gearbox to break, but it's all on the same side that the impact was on, and it broke the shroud off the engine (I know they're flimsy anyway) and it was a fair knock, but they say that a car can't be built so poorly that it breaks like that (they haven't owned a Renault Laughing Laughing )

I had countless arguements with them over the fact that they didn't believe the ECU was held on the side of the battery tray by a big rubber band (really, it was, good ol' Renault!!!) and even after saying I'd give them photo evidence, they disputed it saying I was lying.

They weren't going to fix all the problems, and the insurance said that they'd charge me my full excess even though the total would have been less than my excess too, so you can see why I'm not happy with them.

So the repairs are less than your excess?

The ones they were prepared to do, yes, considerably less than my excess, but they would have wanted me to pay my full excess which was over 3 times the cost of the repairs they were going to do.

Just to re-cap, the £400 pick up/drop off charge seems quite resonable compared to mine...

Pick up and storage for 5 days = £786.32

I had to foot the bill. Not nice when you've been through a crash, lost your car and have nothing left!

How do you mean Phil? Left it at the scene or at the storage depot?

2 problems i can see with that:

1) my car was in the front of a van, and
2) it was stored at Roy Humphreys. He would either sue you, or kill you. Depends on his mood on the day! Laughing

when my missus smashed into the sign near bury (you've probably seen it as its still not been fixed) we went to pick the poxy little heap up and they charged us 350 bloody f'oking crap quid!! 50 of that was for cleaning up a spot of gear oil!!
Anyway the guy told us while we were there that ater 2 weeks or so the cars get crushed as they cannot contact you as it may cause distress to the family if the worst happened!! i was there a while draining the full tank of petrol!!
