As far as i know, you'll need it up on ramps with the car level.

I got a quote for ATF, from my local Honda dealer the other day, £9.45 per litre (inc VAT). It may be worth finding out if they do larger containers.
The replacement switch I needed was about £80 from Honda but only £13.12 (plus VAT) from

I called up Honda today and they quoted me for the ATF at £13.49 per litre which I have ordered and they only had 2 litres of it available. I will pick it up on monday and will do it the following saturday because I work full time and my commute in the 3rd Gen Prelude a day is 110 miles.

I have also ordered Honda's anti-freeze all sessions, at £12.14 for 5 litres and ordered two as the Prelude takes 7.2 litres and my dad's civic needs topping up too.

Kool, ill jack the Prelude front and back and put axel stands and make sure the car is levelled. I'll drain in a night before and leave it the whole night so by the morning its drained. Would that be ok?

I think ill buy that switch, its pretty reasonable!

Are you sure those prices are right? I had to pay £16odd for my coolant!

£13.49 for the ATF Shocked The manual and handbook for my 4th gen says use "Honda Premium Formula ATF or an equivalent DEXRON II ATF". You can get the later for about £6-7 per litre most places and Honda don't make the Premium Formula now, only stuff they call Z1. Reading on the net, newer Honda automatics need the Z1. I'm not sure how this can be true for older cars that came out before they started making it!

That switch is for the 4th gen, search their site or ring them up for the one you need.

There is a test procedure for the switches and the thermostat in the 4th gen manual

I forgot to mention that I made the order to Honda through my friends car body shop account and he get between 10-15% off parts thats why the prices are lower, forget to mention that.

Guys, where is the nut to take the fluid out of the automatic transmisson? I presume at the bottom, and there is only one yeah? I dont want to start taking the wrong one off lol. Also, putting in the new fluid, do I put it through where the dip-stick is? Because there is so limited space, don't know how to get into there or is there another place it goes in?

And regarding coolant, I want to put fresh Honda coolant, is it just the matter of draining the radiator out and putting new? Will I need to bleed the system at all?

Any help will be really appreciated!

My weekend with my 3rd Gen...

- Full service, oil, oil/air/petrol filter, plugs, and leads
- New front brake pads and discs
- Full brake system has been bleeded
- New transmission fluid - drain refil (fluid from Honda), will test if the car still judders on my way to work tomorrow.
- Full cooland change - (coolant from Honda)
- Under seal - rear arches
- New standard number plates (with no company info!)
- Filtted a boot spoiler (thanks to dan3g)
- Full valet and deep polish!

To do yet:
- Fit Cobra 3198 alarm/immobiliser
- Find and fit new torsion bars for the boot, boot has become heavy after spoiler has been fitted
- Find the SE model alloy wheels
- Get new battery, the previous has fiited a very small Civic battery for some reason
- May need to change fan switch

What do you think so far? Smile

The fan coming on is normal, my third does it all the time and its recently had a new radiator. There is also no switch in mine. Is it possible that the small battery was causing problems?
