I bought a an induction kit a few weeks ago, just tried to fit it but its not going so well! Under the standard air filter, there is obviously a hole to feed air to the filter from the front bumper (or there abouts), are these holes the same on the standard 2l 5th gens and the 2.2 vtec? The hole isnt big enough for the pipe to go through for the air filter to then sit behind the front bumper... im confused... i dont no whether im being a complete dumbass or what lol. If it is different, is it possible to make this hole bigger by cutting it out or does it do something else aswell? (As you can tell, im really not that technical haha) The kit is an AEM copy as shown in the link below..

Have you removed the lower part of the std air box?
Have you remove the resonator box?

once the whole of the original air box is removed it should just be a straight swap the cone should fit to the side of the battery just above the intake hole

That pipe is a little longer than the normal 'CAI' pipes that can be found.

You will have to make the hole next to the battery tray a little bigger for the pipe to fit through, bear in mind that you'll have to remove the resonator box from behind the front bumper if you have not already. It's a bumper off job.

For a quick fit you could split it where the join is, but it'll mean that the filter sits in the engine bay. (like in the picture above)

It's a big plastic box that sits behind the bumper on the drivers side, it restricts the air flow to the induction system at low revs.

If you look down the hole where the bottom half of the old air box sat you should be able to see the top of it.

EDIT:

Just noticed your is a 2L, not sure if they have them? I'm sure someone will clarify this?

Here you go. I thought some pictures may help Wink

This is obviously a 4th gen, and it's a really bad picture, but should give you an idea of what the resonator box looks like and where it's found (it's the black thing with a gert crease in it...

This is what should be left once it's removed. (Note the underside of the oval hole you should be familiar with Wink )...

So when the resonator box is removed you should be left with something like this (Only the bumper between the hole and the outside)...

I've removed my battery, but most induction kits have the filter just to the side of the battery (still in the engine bay) However, looking at the link you provided, your ducting looks quite long and therefore it's possibly intended for the ducting to carry on through the hole so that the filter connects beneath it (drawing colder air from directly behind the bumper).

If this is the case then you will need to enlarge the hole. Your ducting is probably 76mm internal diameter (so + a couple mm for the outside diameter) but if I recall, the width of the existing hole is only 70mm, therefore obviously too narrow for the ducting to pass through.

Hope all that makes sense Wink

i think when the resonator box is in place with the original airbox, it restricts the air flow when the car is moving at low revs

This should explain all...

Once you've removed the resonator, the small vacuum pipe you would have disconnected from the butterfly valve on the resonator needs to be bunged... Then you're done Wink

IF your induction kit pipe won't fit through the oval hole in the engine bay bulkhead, rather than hacking the oval hole bigger it might be easier to cut the induction kit pipe and sleeve it with a bit of felxible sillicon pipe through the oval bit.

That said, if the car's a 2litre I personally wouldn't fit a CAI as for the tiniest performance gain under very few conditions they make the car drive like a pig in hot weather and at low revs without the resonator fitted. It'll sound phenomenal but the throttle will feel spongy and crap.
