If you cannot give us an average MPG for comparo, this thread is pointless.

We need facts, Mr Gradgrind!

My 00 Red Top manual usually gives around 22 MPG and 24 on longer runs. My driving style is said to be a tad aggressive.

If the pad is stuck in the caliper carrier, you need to remove the stainless pads on the carrier and scrape the rust and crap off them.

Clean the stainless pads and re-fit.

If the pads are aftermarket, they can easily be a poor fit and may need the excess grinding off the "ears" until they slide in the carrier pretty easily.

IMO thats not bad, I get 220-280 to 50L of fuel, depending how much VTEC I use. I have never had over 300 (unless on the motorway) in either of my Ludes.

Someone with an auto should be able to give a better comparison though.

THats about right mate. I drive mine around town and sometimes I'm lucky to get 200. Most I've ever got was 320 but that was anal 65 MPH on the motorway.

Sounds like you're in the ballpark anyway, so perhaps there's nothing you can do. I've got some time so here's my tuppence.

Lots of cold starts and short journeys really shags the figures on my manual 4th Gen. Just driving to work and back I'm looking at 22-25mpg but over 30mpg down the motorway. The car seems to get sluggish and thirsty just doing local work and Redex fuel system cleaner helps keeps it sharp and relatively efficient.

Obviously if you're running the air-con, heater, fan, window demister, MP3 player, head unit and 3 amps you're consumption will increase dramatically. Switch it all off, or at least as much as you can stand.

Obvious one again, if you're doing 70mph down the motorway you're using 20% more fuel than at 50mph (but getting there 40% faster ).

Personally I think light throttle is the only driving practice that actually helps, and even then not much. Think about your throttle application, keep it smooth and try only giving it like 1/2 inch of throttle pedal when cruising. You might be surprised how often you're going full throttle. That's like giving it enough fuel to run at 140mph, but actually going much slower. THAT's where you're MPG can really be destroyed. In an auto there can be a tendency to poke the pedal to encourage a downshift too, try to avoid that.

Keep monitoring and bear in mind that with the colder weather coming it's likely to use even more fuel. If you make changes and your consumption stays about the same you can assume you've made an improvement that's offset by the colder conditions.

My 4 mile commute has a lot to answer for. It's nice being in work 10 minutes after getting in the car though. Laughing

Similar figures to me.

I've got a P Reg VTi Auto. On long motorway journeys, I do about 28mpg, driving conservatively. Bit disappointing, I feel I should be getting more than that.

Driving to work and back, which is a 26 mile round trip at 60-70mph on a dual carriageway I get about 21-22mpg, again driving conservatively with no VTEC action. I've been very disappointed with these figures, and am thinking of getting the car checked out.

The fuel consumption is so bad that I very rarely put my foot down, for fear of it getting even worse - which kind of defeats the point of owning a Lude. It's not that heavy a car, I can't see why I shouldn't get able to get above 30mpg with 'normal' driving.

That's pretty poor consumption figures Tom, get it looked at, check for binding brakes.
