at some point in time when ive saved up but after seeing the pics of maxxs showroom car i want a sparkly one.

roughly (as everywhere is different) how much would it be for a full respray including rear quarter panel rust removal (needs a plate welding in on the o/s and filler on the n/s)

i want it the same colour as i like it so sherwood green

£2000?

really wanna start saving for this now

you will be lucky if you get in for 2000 done and also good.

you need some velding and really expensive color, so i think if you want it done really good you need pay bit more

That's a good guide for price, you'd have to talk to a few bodyshops, find one you're happy with and go from there.

2k will definately set you in the ball park.
As Dave said, shop around and try talking to some local independant garages that may be able to refer you to smaller 1/2 man band bodyshops who will usually be cheaper and more flexible than big accident repair centres.

If you can be without your car for a good few weeks you can sometimes get a reduction in costs if they take it on as a project to do around other in/out work.

Also, any work you can do before the car goes into the shop that can reduce their labour on the car the better ie removal of all lights, bumpers, trim etc etc

Need to get the roof painted on my Sherwood green Lude...damn laquer peer has set in Crying or Very sad

sherwood green looks lovely so glad i bought one that colour. i had a quote from a small 1 man band type bloke who said roughly over the phone 800-1100 quid which sounds ok but i want to check out his other work first

failing that il respray both rear wings (rust) the rear bumper and front splitter as those are the worst. then take it too a paint correction place and get that all done although all that added up will come to around £800 still.

i shall have to take it down to this bloke and see what he can do his stuff looks good loadsa big yank tanks in bright colours plus hes an old skool panel beater

Sounds like just the kind of place I mean.
Usually been doing it since they "were a lad", tucked up in some old farm units somewhere, total disregard to namby pamby health and safety legislation but the work quality is usually very good because they are not on strict timescales to "make bonus".

Definately try to get to see some of his work up close and/or speak to a couple of owners before committing

LOL yeah people like that rarely even have a phone let alone a website Laughing, they never advertise, have no signage, are hidden away but the word of mouth from satisfied customers usually keeps them going for years and years.

Good luck with your visit to him and keep us informed - good to see another Lude being saved Cool

hey frank ... i have the 3rd gen prelude and the rear arches were bad enough in end to fail the mot. i really love the car ... no way did i wanna scrap it ... so it was decision time and i thought ok, restoration.

it was gone for months but came back like a brand new car ...

honda still makes the body panels for the mkIII prelude!!! ... any honda dealer can order them for you. the problem is the time .... honda in japan waits until they hav enough orders from dealers around the world, then when a certain target is reached they make a batch of them and send them out. so u have to wait for them!. mine took 4 months. my prelude was white and i had it resprayed original honda white and im so happy with the way it came out!. was fantastic.

i had lots of other work done too like new ac compressor, new cambelt, new main driveshaft pulley (it had split ... its in 2 sections, an inner and outer pulley and they were not not turning together!!! ... lots of little bits and pieces put right and the car drives like new now.

cost was £4200. but worth every penny. no 2nd hand car or new fiat with the scrappage scheme which wud cost about what i paid for my restoration wud give me the same pleasure as owning this prelude and itll be good for years to come now.

and whats even better is that white is back in just now - i keep seeing lots of brand new hi end cars, audis, bmws etc in white ))))

so go ahead, save the money and get it done, if u like the car and intend to keep it like i do mine, its money well spent! Very Happy

heres the linky to mine:-

Im going to attempt my first respay myself. I am confident that I will get it to a standard anyone would be happy with. Ive been spaying for years and to be honest its not hard to learn. If you can do it yourself you would save yourself £1500 even with a sparkle paint, its time and a place to do it that is the hardest part.

Im doing my carbon bonnet very soon and then I will repair the rusted rear arches by cutting the rot out and welding new metal in, will do any tiny dings that do my head in too. The secrect of any paint job is prep.

I will do a ful and detailed write up when it all begins. My cost will be around no more than £150 including paint Cool
