Alright, I have earlier installed Dynamat on some of the surfaces of a panel but now have decided to the whole panel.

Question is can I just peel off the silver bit of the Dynamat already sticked on and just cover it over with the new layer?

Also, is it ok if the underside (black sticky side) of Dynamat gets wet / exposed to moisture?

Thanks.

Putting Dynamat over Dynamat is highly recommended. You will make it thinker and more effective. So its not problem.

Now if you have cleaner and dried the surface then its fine but dont stick it over already wet panels. Its doesnt matter if it gets wet as long as stook on when it was dry. Again concentrate on the inner door skin where the speaker is mounted.

Ah right, so I will just feel the silver bits off my current Dynamat and stick the new one on top of it then.

Thanks for the heads up Smile

I didn't know you could rip off the water plastic shield thingy from the door frame and just stick dynamat on to it so I stuck tiny jigsaw puzzle pieces of Dynamat all around that plastic Razz So it's ok for water/moisture to get on the black sticky bits?

Dont stick dynamat to the stock plastic water sheet. Remove the waterproof sheet completely and put dynamat over the whole metal area.

Right thanks for the heads up!

Just to confirm, it's OK for the black sticky bit of the Dynamat to get in contact with moisture/water right?

only after its been stuck down when dry. After its stuck down it can get as wet as you like and it wont budge as the seal from the black butyl will be water tight.
Use a roller to press it in and it will never come off.

DO NOT TRY AND ''REMOVE THE SILVER BIT''. LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE AND JUST PUT NEW ON TOP.

also, use of a hair drier on the dynamat before you apply it helps with adhesion.

anything that is on the plastic sheet is scrap. dynamat goes on metal.

Don't forget to put the plastic sheet back afterwards.

I'm following the steps here :

I am skipping 4a and just sticking it on the inside. But water can still splash through the holes I guess? From the picture I guess he just cover the whole thing (including the hole) with dynamat. But the depth of the Dynamat contour in Step 8 is a bit misleading.

Did he just cover over the hole (meaning the black side of Dynamat isn't sticking to anything) or did he press the Dynamat inside the hole and stick it to the other metal surface?

Confused
Crying or Very sad

The proper way to do it is to cover the holes with either wood, metal of fibreglass and then deaden on top of that. in the dynamat guide that is what they have done but dont show it as its classed as expert DIY.

I wouldnt worry about the plastic weather sheet if your covering the holes.
Also i would put one layer on the outer skin and 2 layers on the inner skin. Sound be around 12Sqft in total per door.

Thanks for the reply mate!

I can't afford to put so many layers I'm afraid. Sad I ordered the door kit online (should be arriving tomorrow but the git forgot to despatch it so its coming Thurs) and its roughly enough for 2 ave sized doors.

So does this mean I have to cover the hole with something? :0 I dont have any MDF or anything at the moment....

Is it ok to just cover over it with Dynamat ?

Perfectly fine to cover the holes with dynamat. Sealing the doors will improve midbass like night and day. The best way to do it is to get a solid seal but covering with deadening is a good budget way.

Ace! Just what I need to know Wink Was a bit worried that exposing the black sticky bit without it sticking on anything is bad.
