The inner arch lining and outer lipped part of the rear arches on my 89 prelude have rusted quite badly and are in need of some iminent welding. I spoke to a garage recently that could do the work and they said they can easily patch up the inner lining with a new metal plate but the outer arch will probably require a repair panel or some expensive fabrication. He showed me a catalogue of repair panels available for hundreds of different cars of all ages but rear arches for the 3rd gen prelude are not manufactured. Which is a bit of a sh!tter considering how common rusty arches is for them.

However they are for similar age (late 80's) accords and civics.

Does anybody know if the wheel arch profile for these other cars is similar enough in size to the 3rd gen prelude to be able to modify one to suit? None of my neighbours have one so I cant sneak out with a tape measure.

Apparently Accord arches can be tickled to fit according to yer man Ryanmt.

hey ... just seen this post - honda DO still make the panels for this car - iv had mine replaced rear panels both sides. the panels from honda cost about £950 each ... then the fitting, labour etc ... but well worth doing! ... my car is like brand new now! -)))

Thanks for the advice.........I will need to start saving some cash as Im pretty sure thats what I will need and I do intend to keep the car as a long term project.

I am currently on the lookout to rent a garage/workshop where I can strip the car down completely and send the chassis off to Surface Processing ltd to be stripped of paint and then galvanised.

I have saved up about £3500 to spend on it so far.

Did you have both the copmplete rear wings (up to roof level) cut out and the new ones welded in? If so who did you get to do it as the few body shops I have spoken to so far have not really inspired confidence.

Also do you have any pics of your rebuild from start to finish?

Given the cost of parts and the fact that you're stripping yours back to bare metal, how about using a donor car that's already had the stuff done? If the arches have been done really well you could remove the rear quarters and sell the rest, or keep the best bits for your rebuild.

If it's as tidy as it looks, it may even be worth using this shell complete for your build (as you said your's has rust), unless you're particularly attached to the shell you have.

Yeah im pretty attached to the shell I have and would like to keep it alive. Unfortunately I dont have any where to keep a donor car and have already scrapped one 3rd gen a couple of years ago because I did not have the space to keep it while saving up to restore it and I was pretty upset to see it go before I got the one I have have now (and some more funds as well)
