|
|
Just thought I review some of the intakes that i owned. Before i start i just would like to make it clear that i havent got that much of a mechanical experience and i havent done dynos to prove the results. This is just simple and honest review.
Stock Air intake
Its good, economical and it does its job. It much more econonical if you stay off the vtec.. I think if your thinking of getting a cheap eBay intake then there is no point. The stock will be much better. Honda known their engine..
Type-S or the Stock intake for later model of 5th gen
This is the next step in my opion. It looks much meaner and also sound very good compared to the stock.. I dont know if this is just me or what but i think my fuel economy improved a bit while i stayed off the Vtec on the Type-s.. It felt i had more power below 4K rpm so never really need to go in to Vtec so may be that was the reason i improved my fuel economy.. I had the Type-s with a K&N filter.
AEM V2
If you must get an aftermarket induction kit then this is the one to go for. But only get this if you have a couple of hundred spare in your piggy bank as i dont think its worth that much for a few more BHP. And im being realistic and sayin that my car is now old and probably lost some BHP in its old age so im not hopin to get a huge increase in power.
The main reason i got this was that it looks stunning in the eingine bay. The sound it produces so amazing and when you cross over into the VTEC the sound turns brutal. I cant coment on the fuel economy for the AEM because i only installed today and as i love the sound of it in VTEC i think petrol reciets will pile up.
Hope this helps when you decide what air intake to buy..

Now that you've had your AEM V2 fitted for a few months Nitin, how do you find it?
Does it feel as though there is more power there, or is it all noise?
Talking of the noise, how loud is it?
I would want a meaty rumble, but not too loud as to wake the neighbours at 5am.
Any other opinions on the AEM V2 would be welcome, as I may have just bought one. _________________

Good lad Pushk!
With any induction kit, it only gets loud the more the engine is under strain, so unless you drive full throttle through your street - you shouldn't wake the neighbours.
The sound is lovely, really nice. Very similar to the sound produced from the eBay intake i had on before.
All in all, its a nice bit of kit, that im not sure if ive felt the power increase or not, but you know should be doing some good!
Sadly i will be heatwrapping mine soon, so no more pretty paint for me. Thats one thing i do like about it actually, its a very attractive bit of kit. _________________

I've actually got a Pipercross Viper CAI fitted at the moment, which is great and not loud at all.
I bought the AEM because it was going for a price I couldn't ignore.
My fear is the noise levels. I don't want people thinking I'm a chav. _________________

I'll probably give it a go for a little while and see whether I like it or not.
I too, feel as though it could be a downgrade though. _________________

Seriously Pushk, just fit it and see what you think.
Its quiter than the eBay one (a little) but i certainly wouldn't class it as a downgrade by any means. You can get very inventive with the V2, and make a closed off metal surround (box) around the cone. This is what i will be doing.
Knowing me, il make it out of cardboard and sellotape, but with your eye for detail, you could make something very special. If you don't understand what i mean, PM me and il explain it in more detail _________________
