I've been with out a stero for like a month and its doing my nut in!!
I went to replace the headunit in the car with my old one from my civic to allow me to use my MP3 cd's only to find i couldn't get it working. Had a friend of a friend look at it and he said my best bet was to get a loom from another lude and then could sort it out but when i stuck a post in the wanted i was told i could possibly rewire it all.

Here's a bunch of pics of the wiring. The plug is how it was connected when the old stero was in. There's 2 sets of phono connectors, 1 for the sub and one for the fronts and the car was only putting out sound from the left front door speaker and tweeter and the sub in the boot.
Keep in mind i have no clue with this sort of thing and will probably have to go back to the mate of a mate to help me fix it if it can be rewired. If any pics are needed i can get them and thanks for any help in advance, it will be hugely appreciated!

Where are you? Could probably give you some tips and wiring diagrams etc, but if you're not confident, then it'd be easier to sit in the car and work through it with you.

Can post up wiring diagrams for the common arrangements, but it sounds like you need a bit more help than that. Plus, it would be worth checking the speakers in turn to make sure they're working.

Best wishes, Colin

Hi colin,
I'm just over the otherside of the severn, not far from the old bridge. I'm pretty sure the guy before had just the fronts and the subs running through phono cables. I'm guessing the wiring diagrams wouldn't be much help to me really? also, how could i check if the speakers are working, any easy way?
cheers

have a look in the tech section at the service manual. it will have wire diagrams with colour coding and function. then its a nice easy time with some wire and a crimper. no biggy.

will i need to get some sort of connectors to crack on the end of the wires then as they are just stripped back a bit and taped up? I got stuff to connect wires (well my old man has i think) like crimpers or the blocks you connect wires into but im still a bit lost sadly Laughing

its never good to have taped up wires, i would get some more butt connectors, like those red ones in your pics, or you can get them in blue Wink

oh right, i see what you mean now Embarassed

you can buy another iso lead to save chopping the cars wiring, only cost about 5 - 10 quid, shame the owner before you didnt, it would have saved you this ball ache Mad

it looks like the 5 pin plug is for a sony stereo. you wont need to put any more wires into this. there should be 8 single wires left now, these will be your speakers, 2 for each speaker. what you are going to need is an 8 pin plug, the same as the 5 pin plug in your pics, but will have 8 wires coming out of it, usually 2 purple, 2 green, 2 grey and 2 white.

when you have got that, get the 8 speaker wires from the cars loom and take the butt connectors and the bits of taped up wire off them and fook them in the bin, if you havent already done so Smile then you just need to determine which are the front speakers, left and right, and the rears too. once you have done that, connect them to the wires from the 8 pin plug with butt connectors, not tape Laughing

when thats done, hook your stereo up and have a play with the balance and fade to check if all speakers are working. hopefully, the reason why your speakers werent working is crap wiring.

so does the 5 pin plug fit into the back of your pioneer head unit Question

have you got the 8 pin plug for the speaker wires Question

the 2 phono leads, 1 for the sub, the other shouldnt be for the front speakers, it could be for the amp the front speakers were wired to.

the 2 wires that have been twisted together, the blue and the white ones that are connected to the see through speaker cable that disappears under the centre console, they are probably the front left speaker wires. and im guessing that the front right speaker is the brown wire and red wire that also go back under the console, are they also connected to a see through speaker cable Question
