As i'm having extreme difficulty finding decent lightweight wheels any more, i thought i'd start a list of the wheels here.

I class light weight wheels as those which come in at the same weight as the stock wheels including tyres made by Enkei or lighter.

This basically means you're limited to 15 and 16 inch rims, with a max weight of about 6.5kg for 16 inch and about 6kg for 15 inch wheels.

This allows the tyre to err on the heavy side depending on the manufacturer and still come in at about the same weight as the stock wheel, this will keep handling, acceleration and braking sharp Cool

Toyo Proxy tyres, around the lightest and Bridgestone Potenzas are some of the heaviest

Average tyre weights

215/40 17 inch tyre ~9.65kg
205/50 16 inch tyre ~9.85kg
205/55 15 inch tyre ~9.35kg

17 inch - Including for super light wheels. The problem is the weight of the 17 inch tyre is massive and even with the likes of the OZ Alleggerita, it's well clear of the stock wheel and tyre weight.

OZ Ultraleggera 7x17 - 6.94kg
OZ Superleggera 7x17 - 6.94kg
OZ Alleggerita HLT 7x17 - 6.3kg

16 inch

OZ Ultraleggera 7x16 - 6.46kg
Mugen MF8 7x16 - 5.5kg
Rota Slipstream 7x16 - 6.3kg
Rota Subzero 7x16 - 6.6kg
Rota Fighter 7x16 = 5.9kg
Rota Torque 7x16 = 6.3kg
Rota Grid 7x16 = 6.03kg

15 inch

Stock Prelude >94 - 6.5x15 - 10.2kg
Stock Prelude facelift (95&96) 6.5x15 - 7.71kg

*Most Rota wheels in 15 inch are a good weight*

I will add to this list as people post more and i find more wheels around that i can confirm with the correct fitting.

They certainly do, and i can confirm they fit the 4g Smile

They are the wheel on which the Rota Circuit 8 are based, but the Rota's are 7.3kg each Sad

So does anyone know how much the standard 4th gen wheels weigh?

Not sure how to describe the wheels im thinking of (the ones where the spokes are angled, everyone seems to get confused by which way they go round)

Hope that sums up which ones i mean!

Ive got some BK racing (racin bruv!) wheels on it atm, which i feel are probably quite heavy, and would prefer 15" or 16".

Don't want to spend massive money as i will probably refurb them.

But my main question is...........standard, or aftermarket, when on a budget?

The angled vents on the stock wheels are for facelift models, i've added their weight along with the pre facelift wheel weight to the list.

how much do you want to spend?

I went to germany a few months back and the guy had 4 wheels on the scales weighing less than 1 normal alloy

he said that any 4 of his wheels would weigh less than any oem wheel in any size (same size as his wheels)

he did 15 - 30inch wheels

Well, unless i find anything better, i'll be paying £700 for the ultras.

I want 15 or 16, jap style design and actually strong, not just light.

My favourite rims in the world, Desmond Regamaster EVO / Spoon Sports SW388

Love the clean simple look of them

Both the same rims, Spoon simply buy their wheels from Desmond, paint them black and call them Spoon.

16x7 weigh in at 5.4 kg

I like those Desmonds, it's obviously the wheel that the Rota Slipstream is copied from.

I don't know why, but i like the original wheels that the Rota's were copied from, but not so much the Rota's, also the Rota's are heavier :/

If someone can supply/tell me where i can get new rims from like Mugens etc i'd be very happy.
They'd have to be the most awesome and lightweight wheels in the world to pay £1000 for them, so from what you're saying preludevtec, it would seem your guy can't help?

So what i need, is someone who can supply the original JDM rim types that will fit and be light, anyone know anyone?

Dave, are you going to be stripping your Prelude out, fitting C/F panels and plastic windows, removing all the interior and every spare gram of unnecessary weight in order to make it the most lightweight track/drag car possible?

If not, then why not just buy a nice looking set of alloy wheels and just enjoy the car, like the rest of us Wink
