Doesnt the supercharger need to be up beside the inlet manifold? |
Course I'll pull it off, at least for 20 seconds
And no matey, a supercharger can go anywhere on the inlet tract, if you want to intercool it it has to be far away from the inlet manifold, BUT it should have a throttle plate infront of the charger so thats probably why most companies preffer it up there, and also pulleys have to be within reach, again usually easier when the supercharger is above the inlet manifold. |

Just a few notes on the progress. Getting the charger into place was a real fuss, took a good day of hammering the inner wall and sawing and hacking up the front slam panel thing to get it anywhere near the right place, as I had no reference as to how it should sit I think I've worked it out now though and custom made the brackets (as you can probably tell) using nothing more than a hacksaw, drill and a hammer
I'm currently making a squaring mount for the bottom and once all tightened up theres no way that steel will budge Once all finished, I'll rip it out sand it down paint em black to make em look a little nicer and then get on with ordering a belt. Now you may have noticed the belt tensioner is no more? Why?! Because a) the damned thing kept getting in the way, and b) I realised the alternator is jammed solid, it aint budging on the sliding rail so I'll just have to get a very accurate belt and hope for the best I'm afraid. I think I should take some time to sand down all the panels and repaint them to get rid of the ugly surface rust but depends how I do for time. You may also notice that the cooler for the PS fluid is, infact, more rust than metal.. which is a shame as the pipes are one piece, look like a royal arse-ache to replace and will no doubt cost a fortune new. May keep it as is for now then when they undoubtadly go will just remove the PAS and loop the lines. Final thoughts, well progress is coming on alright, The second mount you see once bolted will keep the right-side of the charger pushed out a little making the pulley pretty much square on, the bottom mount I hope will keep it dead fast in position. The charger doesnt have much room before it hits the crossmember, infact I'm quite sure its touching it, so im a little concerned about engine movement on revs - I dont really fancy going to the extent of getting solid mounts. The pipe in the front is the outlet, and the one at the rear is the inlet, so I will get a universal intercooler with the entry pipes at the bottom end so I can mount it nicely behind the bumper, should fit a peach I reckon! Also you notice that from above it looks just like an NA engine would look? Pretty sweet eh |

Looks like you have a lot of work right there!
You will certainly want to a fair bit of clearance between the SC and the cross member. The engine will move under accelleation and letting off so they will end up hitting off each other and breaking something or vibrating like hell anyway.
Ditch the PC and Air con I would say.
Is it not possible to mount the SC above the Alternator where teh PC pump sits? This would surely give you more clearance and make it easier to route the induction pipes?

OK well sadly for those who don't know I called off the supercharger conversion.. despite the ultra-coolness and uniqueness Its more stuff than I want to get into and really I depend on my motor being reliable .. not to mention I have another little car to keep the smiles on my face power-wize (nearly 500 ponies of smiles) .. so the prelude will now be my daily rep-mobile.
I know I change my mind about things every 5 minutes when I see something new I like etc. but for now I'm happy with my interior except for 2 things, I'd preffer a set of leather dc5/clio trophy recaros (the price makes jesus cry) and some mats.. so far heres what I've got:
Full leather retrim (courtesy of mattblack lude), double din cd/minidisc player - I went for the 90's look, I wanted something simple but black faced and not one of these newfangled tv-screens with 3d graphics.. just a cool graphic equaliser, I hit the jackpot with the one I got .. a skunk 2 gearknob, shortened gear lever, black leather with red-stitch gaitor, diy leather gaitor for the gearstick and some wicked alloy pedals (I swear getting the accelerator pedal fitted was harder than replacing my clutch!). And a momosport wheel with customised centre horn/ring.
I'm going to admit JDM_BB4 (id say Dave, but then everyone would take credit) was my main insiration here, after sitting in his prelude I havent looked back! so thumbs up to you
The outside is an interesting story, I got some buddyclub sideskirts and was looking to get a Wings West RS front lip and a rear lip of some sorts - or spats to mate the 17" work CE28n's coming my way, but now I'm thinking that the euro lip kit would let me lower it further and focus on handling more.. I'd be too worried to drive it hard with the kit 2mm from the ground I dunno, I'm still contemplating that..
Performance wize I have a lower tie bar, and getting the upper braces. Also I reverted to my injen intake and sprayed it matt black and it came out brilliantly! Pics to follow soon.. sorry for being slow guys!

Good effort buddy.
Shame about the SC conversion, my main concern with that is its closeness to the exhaust maifold and the heat it would generate, especially with running an SC.
The interior looks like it is coming on great.
I think Dave has probably had some sort of influenece on most PUK members cars. Its his eye for detail that I like. _________________

Is that gear gator off ebay? can they be fitted to the stock gear knob? |
Yep, it doesn't come with the plastic top trim ring the teg R gear gaiters do (thanks prelude_bb4 for that), so I tucked the top in originally, but it still sat too low for my snobbish taste. As I was taking it all apart today I decided to ziptie it in place, basically partially invert the leather, look carefully where you need to tie (I suggest just at base of thread) then grip it under that point and fully invert the leather, take 2 zipties and fight them until they hold the leather securely, snip the straggling ends, then fold the gaiter back over to make it a tight fit Before you do that though fit the base of the gaiter onto the plastic base (make sure you have a big staple gun or some heavy duty duct tape, glue wont work) |
