|
|
This my the love of my life, my CC7 Accord, slowly modified on a budget over the 10 years i've owned her.
Just over a week ago, I saw a UKDM 2.2 manual Prelude with no clutch & in need of some tlc up for sale and I couldn’t resist.
As she was:
The first step was a quick wash down with snowfoam and to start on the wheels. They need to come off to be cleaned properly, but here's some pics showing the state of the car before I got started -
Wheels haven't been cleaned for years
The bad bit of rust on the wheel arch. Treated with Kurust for the time being until i get time to have a proper go (which could prove interesting as i haven't done a body repair in years!)
Look at the state of this!
Badges to come off - TOP PRIORITY!!! Would like to replace the rear lights too.
Pitting on the spoiler. A sand & respray should sort this.
Filthy rear wheel & a bit of rust
A bonnet that hasn't seen wax probably ever
Same with the roof. Also a couple of small rust spots on the sunroof
Another filthy wheel
Out of focus pic of the front..
Filth!
After snow foam and a my first attack of the wheels. They will have to come off to do them properly, but it was getting late so that was a job for another day.
After a weekend of hard graft and ending up with arms like Popeye, all done by hand, it's far from perfect, but its a lot better than it was!
In progress of getting rid of the ghey type-r badge, trying to polish the exhaust and so on...
Still got to do the wheels to do properly and sort the inside, but here are things so far. Also put my old Accord black washer jets on (got rid of the chavvy led washer lights)

That's the fall back plan. If anything happens to the Lude, i can always drop the H22 in the Accord! _________________

Good cleanup job and well done rescuing from the chavs
Few things to do but you're getting there. One of only a few people who i've seen attempt to stop the rot themsevles and good on you for it! Even if you don't do the replacement work (if needed) yourself, the least people can do is stop it getting worse (which it does quickly) until the arches are fixed.
One tip though, take 15 mins to get your rear bumper off and check behind the arches at the sides, that's where the rust starts and goes up inside the arch. Check my project link in my sig for the pics of when i did mine and what i found (and my rust was much less than yours) _________________

Cheers Madmaxx. I had the Accord arches sorted twice and in the end one side ended up with a new panel as the only solution.
The Lude cost me £400 (plus the price of a clutch) so i'm trying not to get too tempted to spend a fortune on putting bits right, but i'm anal where cars are concerned so i just know i'll end getting every little bit done!
I'm tempted to have a go at the rust myself, but i know from past experience that sanding and filler doesn't last and only a proper cut out and welding in new metal will solve it and that's not something i'm capable of doing. _________________

That's the bit of the draw back living in Swindon, they were made here and as a result there are still loads on the road here, although i'm pretty confident to say none i have seen are as in good nick as mine.
It's a labour of love, although the kids only want to go out in the Lude now, even though there's no room in the back! _________________

Got any pics of your CB3?
My first ever car (way back in 1987) was a 1980 Accord 1.6 EX, i'm kind of reliving that first car love again with the CC7 and the tractor pulling power of the Lude has got me all excited again! lol! _________________
